IMPORTANT Synod Assembly Reminders

Excuses: The synod constitution requires that all rostered leaders (unless retired) attend the synod assembly and that each congregation send a male and a female voting member. (There are different requirements for very large and very small congregations.) If you or your congregation cannot meet that requirement, you must send a request to be excused to Pr. Nancy Moore at nlmoore57@yahoo.com by June 13.

Arena Restrictions: NO food or beverages can be brought into the arena. Coffee and tea will be available during the one break time and water will be available throughout the assembly. You are welcome to bring empty containers for the complementary beverages. If you have special dietary needs and your assembly responsibilities preclude you from leaving the arena during meal times, please call Debbie Frey at the synod office (610-266-5101).

Pick Up Your Copy at the Assembly!

When people arrive at the synod assembly in Wilkes-Barre next weekend, each congregation will receive a complimentary copy of the new Giving magazine from the Ecumenical Stewardship Center (of which the ELCA is a part). In addition to the free stewardship response program at the center of the magazine, this resource is filled with useful articles for congregational leaders, including a helpful reflection on teaching Christian generosity to children and advice on how to encourage planned giving in your congregation. If you have any questions regarding how to use this resource in your congregation, please contact the synod's Director for Evangelical Mission, Mike Bennethum at Michael.bennethum@elca.org.

Domestic Hunger Grants Available

Each year, a number of hunger-related programs in our synod receive funding through the ELCA's Domestic Hunger Grants Program. This program provides funds to congregations, clusters, organizations, and other groups that provide relief and development assistance for those who suffer from hunger and injustices related to hunger. One of the projects that received funding in 2012 was the Potato Project.

To learn about the grants process, read descriptions of previous grant recipients, and download an application for a grant, go to www.elca.org/domestichungergrants. Please note that applications for 2014 domestic hunger grants must be submitted by July 17.
